  • Students will largely remain in their cohort classrooms for the duration of the day.

  • Teachers will travel to and from classrooms to provide instruction to students.

  • Special-area classes (PE, art, music, library) will be provided to students weekly, albeit at a reduced rate than in previous years.

  • Masks and social distancing will be required all day.

  • Students will be given mask breaks throughout the day.

Social and Emotional Well-Being

All teaching staff will be following the Responsive Classroom model.  The Responsive Classroom approach is an evidence-based way of teaching that offers practical strategies for bringing together social-emotional and academic learning throughout the day.

Teachers will focus on the following four goals, especially during the first six weeks of school.

  • Creating a climate of warmth, inclusion, and safety.

  • Teacher classroom routines and behavior expectations.

  • Help students get to know and care for the classroom and school environment.

  • Establish expectations for academic work.

School counselors will work with classroom teachers to identify students who are struggling with the transition back to school.  The counselor will develop an individualized plan, working with the student, their parents, and the classroom teacher.

The dedicated Classroom Support Teacher and School Counselor will present social-emotional lessons using the Second Step Curriculum to all students on a weekly basis.
